Half of Chinese enterprises are private

To date, there have been 7,878,000 enterprises registered at the State Administration of Industry and Commerce, according to the Administration.

Among them, 3,984,000 are private enterprises, accounting for 50.57 percent of the total, exceeding for the first time the cumulative sum of the state-owned, the collective-owned and the foreign-funded businesses.

The Administration says private enterprise have also been growing both bigger and stronger.

Sources say Shanxi, Liaoning, Shanghai, Anhui Guangxi, Hainan, see the fastest growth of the number of private enterprises.

On the whole, the number of private enterprises still have much potential for growth.
